Close-up of a smiling woman with long dark hair and blue eyes, wearing a black top and gray jeans, sitting in front of a colorful abstract background.

I'm Amy Stone, a Seattle-based painter working in abstract expressionism and the abstracted female form. I came to painting after years in chalk pastel, and now use both to create works that have depth and texture.

Color is central to everything I make. Not as volume or noise, but as relationship. The way two tones sit next to each other and either create tension or resolve it.

The female form threads through my work even when it isn't visible. Body image, aging, the experience of being a woman in a body that keeps changing, these are not easy things to sit with, so I paint them instead.

My work has been exhibited throughout the United States, used on various TV sets, and collected nationally and internationally.

I live in Seattle with my husband and two sons, who provide endless material and very little quiet. I paint to find quiet. Hopefully it finds you too.

"The human form is an essential theme in her works, even when the form isn't always visible. Like a sensual subtext, the warmth of shape, the beauty of feminine curve, is present behind the bold strokes and blocks of color... She doesn't present a full idea to the viewer. She presents a full concept in color and implores you to resolve it."
